THE LANDSCAPE CONTEXT

- EXISTING SITE ECOLOGY &
PLANNING STATUS

Planning:

The site at Nether Alderley was identified in 2002. It offered the right potential land values and was of an appropriate scale to re-create an appropriate setting for the reconstruction of Sandown Hall. Without a site of appropriate size and character the historical benefit of re-erecting Sandown Hall would be lost.

The application site consists of one large field (approximately 25 acres) partially subdivided by mature hedgerow trees and with mature hedgerows and hedgerow trees to over half of the perimeter.

Currently it has a number of uses: 1. The building on site is used for storage purposes in association with a horticultural and landscape gardening business 2. A shoot takes place every weekend on the northern area of the site 3. The land is currently used for silage production

Outline planning permission was granted in October 1975 for the erection of a bungalow for an agricultural worker.

A section 52 Agreement attached to the permission required the owner to erect and construct a horticultural store and a packing shed before the dwelling was occupied. The single storey horticultural store was completed. Footings have been laid for both the packing shed and the bungalow although these have not been completed.
