THE CONSERVATION & DESIGN PROCESS
TO RECREATE A SEMI-RURAL
PARKLAND ESTATE & GARDENS

Through research and analysis it has been established that the Hall's Estate and gardens were characterised by the following features:

Estate:

1. Semi-rural parkland setting:
the Hall was constructed within a semi-rural setting of pastoral fields. Over a period of time the fields became adapted and changed in style to a parkland arrangement with copses and belts of trees. Pasture was grazed by livestock, which supported the needs of the Hall, and family and carriage horses.

2. Woodland belts: all the above features were set within belts of woodland planted to provide shelter and frame or mask views.

3. Entrance and Drive: from the south-east entrance a long curving drive passed through grassland with shelter belts and towards the front of the Hall.
