From the Wavertree Society's Newsletter 152, October 2004:
THE EXTENSION DECLARED OPEN
On 20th October the Earl of Derby visits Wavertree to declare the Blue Coat School extension officially open. Now that the controversial new building has been completed and occupied, attention is being turned to the existing Edwardian buildings which are Grade II* listed and in need of repair.
The South Wing and part of the West Wing (overlooking the Mystery) have been sold to Miller Homes for conversion to private apartments, and as part of this scheme the former school laundry building has recently been demolished to make way for a new block.
The trustees of the Liverpool Blue Coat School Foundation will be spending a large part of the £2.2 million proceeds on refurbishing the Church Road frontage, including the Clock Tower, the Board Room and the Chapel - which will be available for hiring out for weddings and other functions.
